About Me

Welcome to Travel and Snark! I am so glad you dropped by. My name is Sandra Leone. I am a (clearing throat) late-40-something single woman. I love traveling and exploring new things. These adventures can be here in the north Texas area where I live, or all the way across the globe. My problem, for way too many years, was that I could never find good travel partners, and I also thought, I needed a significant other to really enjoy traveling. I got sick of keeping my passion for traveling and exploring on hold, so I started trekking solo! Yup! Scared shitless the first time (almost as terrifying as the first step off a zipline platform!), I took off. I didn’t exactly take a vacation by myself, but the journey was solo. I responded to an international disaster, and met up with a crew of strangers in a strange country (more on that in a later post – I promise). I landed in a foreign country with no clue who was picking me up, who I was going to be staying with, or working with. Yup, baptism by fire. I was either going to love it, or run home screaming in a couple of days. I loved it. Hard work, lots of stress and tears, but an amazing opportunity to help a community in desperate conditions.

So, why did I create Travel and Snark? Well, mostly because I love traveling. I have the wanderlust bug, and I want to share those experiences with you. I know there are a lot of people (not just women) who really want to travel, but they think solo travel is too depressing, or too scary, or too pathetic. I am here to tell you that it is AWESOME! I do take trips with other people sometimes. I have been averaging two to three major trips a year with at least one of them by myself. Your travel companion can make or break your entire trip! I want everyone to realize that traveling alone is not a bad thing. It can be very healing and empowering to take an adventure alone – rediscover who you are, find a new passion, refocus on an old one. There is such a huge and wonderfully exciting world out there! I don’t want anyone to miss it because they are waiting for that elusive (aka non-existent) “travel companion.” Life is way too short to allow fears and hang-ups to keep you on the sidelines. Get in the game! Take the trip! Try a new activity!

Travel and Snark will mostly be about my travel or explorations. They will not all be solo treks, but the majority will be. I will showcase locations, resorts, restaurants, and activities – in my local area and all over the globe. I will offer tips that I have found to be helpful in the planning, packing, and taking phases of travel (travel hacks). I will post at least two articles a month and will send out emails for each one. I would love for you to join me! You can follow along by subscribing to my newsletter here: [ninja_form id=2]
